Michael Mogavero, DVM
Chief of Staff
Michael Mogavero was born and raised in Toronto. During high school, he worked as a standardbred groom at Greenwood Raceway. He went on to earn his trainers and driver's license. Once accepted to the Ontario Veterinary College the horse racing career was placed on hold. Upon graduation in 1981 he set up an equine practice at Flamboro Downs Raceway. In 1985 he opened the Wilson Street Veterinary Clinic in Ancaster and combined his horse practice with companion animals. In 1997 he purchased the West Park Animal Hospital from Dr. John Morton. Over the next couple of years, he weaned himself away from the horses and by 1997 he was doing companion animals almost exclusively. In 1997 he purchased the Mohawk Animal Clinic from its founder Dr. Wayne Gerrie. The Downtown Animal Hospital was opened by him in 2004 followed in 2012 by the Main St. West Animal Hospital.
Dr Michael is the proud father of two grown children David and Carlee. He has served on the board of directors of the Hamilton Burlington SPCA for many years, the last two as Chairman. He has also served as a Councillor at the College of Veterinarians on the Registration, Complaints, and Discipline Committees.
In his spare time, he enjoys golf and hockey as well as caring for the thoroughbred horses and Limousine cattle on the small farm in Copetown that he shares with his partner Sherry.
He is pictured here with the long-time mascot of the Wilson St. Veterinary Clinic, Cosmo who passed away in February 2014. He is missed.
